[ It's a wise decision to at least stay those few steps out of his range - Shinwoo might be a good guy, but it's not like he's always in control of his temper. By a long shot, in fact, as people who know him would be able to attest to. Even though he isn't planning on punching in Kwangjo's face just yet, if the other manages to hit him verbally just in the wrong spot, there's no telling what will happen.
This so far is fine though. Relatively speaking. Even though the implication that they're still friends annoys Shinwoo more than anything (really, Kwangjo really thinks that he'd still consider being friends with him the way they used to be after what Kwangjo did to him?), it's not like it's enough for him to snap and actually start using violence. Thankfully, because otherwise absolutely nothing productive would be coming out of this meeting.
He's not even that surprised that his former best friend doesn't even apologize or admit to banging his fiancé, despite knowing that he must know. It's just how he is. It's exactly why Shinwoo completely threw the other as far out of his life as he could those years ago.
(Still annoying, though. How could the guy he cared so damn much about and had so much fun with turn into--) ]
We're not normal old friends. [ It's an almost childish sort of answer, despite everything about Shinwoo otherwise being fairly manly and adult - but there's almost something petulant about the way he says it, like a stubborn kind drawing a line in the sand and telling another kid to not cross it.
He knows he is right though. It's not like they naturally fell out of contact and are reuniting now or anything.. It was all a lot more drastic than that, and it's exactly why Kwangjo's attitude irks him right now. Can't he at least acknowledge anything for once? Just one thing? How can he brush off absolutely everything like it's nothing, even the stuff he did and in fact keeps doing to him?
Shinwoo doesn't move though, so that's a plus. He just stands there, keeping his hands in the pockets of his coat - almost as if he's too afraid to pull them out, since they'll be leading a life of their own once he gets too angry. ]
[ No, Kwangjo doesn't think for a second that Shinwoo ever wants to rekindle their relationship. It is a shame, because in his own twisted way Kwangjo really does miss Shinwoo. Kwangjo may not have ever been a good person at any point in his life, but there was a point when he wasn't as terrible as he is now. Shinwoo knew him during that time...
There are moments when Kwangjo is sitting in his large studio apartment, the girls he convinced to come home with him that night asleep, naked on his bed, while Kwangjo stares out the floor to ceiling windows tossing back enough alcohol to numb any trace of genuine human feeling he still has lingering himself him. Before that numbing kicks in, however, or sometimes backed by the liquor in his system, Kwangjo finds his thoughts wandering to Shinwoo, and missing his friend.
His "old friend" who sounds like a child throwing a tantrum over having to say it. He probably is, and if Kwangjo had any decency he'd drop the ruse. Shame then that Kwangjo didn't have a shred of decency in him.
Kwangjo reaches up to idly scratch at the side of his neck, smiling almost lazily at Shinwoo as he considers the comment. ]
Maybe, but we are still old friends.
[ It's hard to tell if he's trying to goad Shinwoo into attacking him or not, because the look he gives him could be read as both fond and patronizing all at once, considering their history and Kwangjo's current indiscretions. ]
[ It doesn't take more than a second for Shinwoo to read into the look on the other guy's face as patronizing. Not even because that's 100% objectively what Kwangjo is going for or anything - no, Shinwoo is just so bitter towards said old friend at this point that there's no way he'd interpret anything Kwangjo did as something positive. His mind will always find a way to put a negative spin on Kwangjo's actions, and although in some cases that isn't difficult (like when Kwangjo bangs his fiancé, for starters), in some cases it's definitely Shinwoo being biased against him.
So it just gives him the feeling that Kwangjo only wanted to talk to him all these times and bombard him with texts just to make fun of him over everything. To look down on him like this. Putting emphasis on the fact that they used to be friends even though Kwangjo did absolutely the most to ruin their friendship - even if that hadn't been the other's intent when shit first went down.
His fingers twitch. He knows it's probably for the best right now that he left those hands in his pockets, but he also knows that he can't turn around the topic he wanted to talk about so badly that he actually called Kwangjo out here forever. Unless he wants to suffer through more of Kwangjo's annoying innocent behaviour and patronizing looks. ]
It's about Sunhye, you bastard.
[ Shinwoo figures Kwangjo can't hop around it anymore when he brings it up like this, right? Unless he's really going to pretend that he isn't having an affair with his fiancé right in front of him now. He knows it'd be a lie - Youngjo has become a whole lot of things, doubtlessly due to the bad influence of his brother in Shinwoo's eyes, but there's no reason at all for him to lie to Shinwoo about Kwangjo and Sunhye having an affair. ]
[ So this was what it was about after all. Kwangjo can't really say he's surprised, though he is wondering who it was that spilled the beans to Shinwoo. They still have a few mutual acquaintances, though most of them wouldn't be aware of his affair with Sunhye. Of course, Sunhye herself might have snapped and rubbed the truth into Shinwoo's face. In fact, right now that's Kwangjo's working theory, instead of his younger brother being the horrendous shit he is and telling his former best friend everything.
That said, if Shinwoo tells him it was Youngjo? Kwangjo wouldn't be even a little bit surprised.
He won't be fishing for sources though, because in all honestly Kwangjo doesn't care who told Shinwoo that his fiance was cheating on him with Kwangjo. It was only a matter of time, and he was well aware of that. It's why he's not going to deny it either. It's certainly not from some sense of nobility, and respect for his friend that has him offering Shinwoo a tight lipped smile that doesn't reach his eyes. ]
Ah...
[ Maybe now would be a good time to take a few more steps back, but he'll stand in place for now. It's unlikely he's getting out of this without at least one punch to the face. He'll just have to be careful to make sure that Shinwoo doesn't break his nose. ]
[ At least Kwangjo isn't denying it, but it's hard to say this response to it is that much better. Hell, maybe it would have been better if he tried to deny it - it'd make it seem like he at least gave a damn about the situation, rather than smiling so vaguely and not really saying anything.
Seriously, that's what he's going with? He's calling him out on making his fiancé cheat on him, and that's all he has to offer?
Maybe he shouldn't have expected any better from Kwangjo, but getting this reaction on the spot is definitely enough to make Shinwoo's temper flare up. It's not a difficult feat, considering how easy it is to step on his toes, but usually the very sight of the other (or even just a text from him) is enough to make him angry.
Let alone this.
So he is going for a punch. There's still a small distance between them, so Kwangjo would have seen it coming even if he didn't predict it already like he has, but Shinwoo's fist sure is flying at his face right now without any further verbal explanation. It doesn't really need one. ]
[ He saw it coming the minute Shinwoo told him while he was here, but the distance does give Kwangjo enough time to try to turn his head and keep the damage from being too severe. Still, a punch to the face sucks, and for an office worker Shinwoo seems to pack a lot of power behind that blow.
Kwangjo reels backwards, stumbling to the side before catching himself. It's honestly amazing he didn't fall flat on his ass, all things considered. He does know better than to stay within range of Shinwoo's fists though, and he quickly scrambles backwards, eyes darting back and forth as he takes in his surroundings.
He'd rather talk things out if at all possible, but he will make a break for it if he's forced to. Kwangjo never claimed not to be a massive coward, and he's not interested in taking Shinwoo's punches, no matter how much he "might deserve it". ]
