[His form may be a little off because of his wound and his anger, but at his core Shinpachi is a warrior, one of the Shinsengumi's best and brightest, and it's just in him to know how to strike and where to strike and even though Kazama is a demon, perhaps it's Shinpachi's anger that speeds his blade because there's a schlick even as Kazama shifts to dodge, and then a faint trickling of blood on Shinpachi's blade.

Kazama looks down, surprised. The front of his kimono top is ripped; furthermore, there is a light wound across his chest. That surprise gives way to rage - his face contorts and he gives off a menacing aura as he steps forward, his hair lightening to white, his eyes shining gold, and horns sprouting from his head. While it would have been possible for him to be mistaken as a human in his usual form - there is no denying that he is decidedly not human.]

How dare you...!

[Even the words he bites out are more of a guttural snarl than anything else. This lowly human dares to lay a hand on him? He'll make him pay. He'll see him broken and dead, and there is an inhuman strength to each and every one of his strikes, an unnatural speed as he lunges and parries and makes every effort to make Shinpachi suffer for what he's done.

This isn't the rasetsu bloodlust; it's madness of another kind.

Chizuru forces herself to her feet in spite of the dizziness and the pain of her wounds and the way her energy is being sapped by her body's attempts at healing itself, draws her sword, and darts forward, intent on - helping somehow, on making Kazama stop, on getting Shinpachi out of there. Kazama's only acknowledgement of her attempts is to bat her away when she gets close, with enough strength that it sends her sword flying to the side and sends her flying back to slam into a tree and crumple to the ground.]

No...

[Finally, Kazama stops, and he kneels down to grip Shinpachi roughly by the hair and force his head up to check that he's alive. He would love dearly to slay him right here for his insolence, but he's seen the Shinsengumi and he knows there is a better way to break him. He adjusts his head to that Shinpachi's gaze falls on Chizuru, lying still on the ground at the base of the tree.]

You failed.

[And with that, he turns on his heel and goes, striding over to heft Chizuru up over her shoulder despite her weak protests - she isn't able to fight him off, she doesn't have the strength - and he takes care to stay within Shinpachi's sights as he walks away, his last bit of cruelty to be forcing the last thing the man sees to be Chizuru being taken away with him unable to do a single thing about it.

No one will come for him, Kazama thinks; this is the end. But Chizuru isn't willing to accept that, and she calls out for him -]

Nagakura-san! Nagakura-san!

[It's less a cry for help and more a desperate plea for him to live. She can bear it, whatever Kazama's plans are for her, as long as she knows that being taken away stopped Kazama from outright finishing him. He has to live.]
