ooc; old kyouko history
Kyouko was born into a small family and lived with her father - who had a church - her mother and her little sister. Her father had different ideas than the main church and began preaching them, but this made everyone quickly leave his church since it almost looked like a cult. But he was just trying to preach the right things, common sense, but still nobody would listen. The family became poor and didn't even have enough to eat. Kyouko thought it was unfair that nobody listened to him at all and so contracted with Kyuubey so her wish for people to listen to her father would be fulfilled. In return for that she would become a magical girl.
And so her wish was fulfilled really quickly, the next morning the church was already full of people. And Kyouko herself took on the job of a magical girl to defeat the witches to protect people. But her father found out about the fact Kyouko wished for people to listen to him. This made him extremely mad, since the people hadn't come to him out of their own free will; in fact, he even scolded Kyouko for it and called her a witch that manipulated people's minds. Eventually he broke down, got drunk, and finally got mad and killed his entire family - only Kyouko was spared. That was when Kyouko saw the error of her ways and decided to not use her magic for anyone else's sake anymore after that.
The first time we actually see Kyouko appearing in the series is when she comes to the city after Mami, another magical girl, died to take over her territory for hunting witches. Kyuubey tells her that the territory is already taken over by a new magical girl though - Sayaka. But this doesn't stop Kyouko as she proclaims that she isn't just going to let 'some rookie chick' take the perfect area right from under her nose and will just have to defeat her to take it back. Even when Kyuubey tells her a bit later that there is another magical girl in the city that might cause a problem in her plan Kyouko just says it doesn't matter since she was getting bored either way, it's good for a little spice in her life.
A little while after that she stops Sayaka in the middle of the new magical girl's battle with a witch's familiar. Her reason for doing so is that it's a familiar, not a witch - so it won't drop a Grief Seed and hence it's not worth wasting your time on. She says there's no worth in helping people or believing in justice and then attacks Sayaka since she thinks she's a nuisance. Kyouko easily beats down the other girl and was going to walk away with just that, but since Sayaka attacks her again she counters with intend to kill. But when she's about to deliver the final blow Homura interferes with her powers and stops their battle, prompting Kyouko to leave the scene.
Later on Kyouko has a conversation with Homura while she's playing some variant of DDR. Homura says Kyouko can have this city, the territory and that she will take care of Sayaka without Kyouko having to do anything. In response Kyouko asks who Homura - the mysterious irregular magical girl - actually is and what her goals are. Homura says that all Kyouko has to do is win during an event called 'Walpurgisnight' that will happen in a week, when a really strong witch will come to the city. Kyouko answers that she would probably need some help with that, with which she offers Homura some of her pocky.
That night Kyouko meets up with Sayaka on the streets. She tells Sayaka how much of an idiot she is for wasting her one chance at a miracle (the wish that was granted in return for her becoming a magical girl) on healing the hand of the guy she likes and states that magic is just there for fulfilling your own wishes, it's purely for your own gain. Eventually she pisses Sayaka off enough so that she will start a new battle with her. But this time the battler is interrupted by Madoka before it even properly starts - Madoka throws Sayaka's Soul Gem off the bridge which causes Sayaka's body to fall down dead. This and the reveal right after that the bodies of magical girls don't contain souls anymore - they practically just exist as souls in their Soul gem and 'die' when they are seperated from them - makes Kyouko rage and lift up Kyuubey by his ear. Luckily Homura returns Sayaka's Soul Gem to her body so she lives once again.
The following morning she once again calls out Sayaka, although this time they seem to be taking a more or less friendly walk. This is when Kyouko reveals the story of her past and how she became a magical girl to Sayaka and tells her to not make the same mistake. But Sayaka doesn't listen to her, saying she doesn't regret the wish she made and leaves Kyouko standing there in anger.
When Sayaka goes off to fight another witch Kyouko first just watches from a distance but when it seems like Sayaka is about to lose she intervenes and saves her, but Sayaka refuses her help once again and ends the battle by herself. A frustrated Kyouko is left behind once again.
Kyouko and Homura have another conversation about Walpurgisnight a litle bit after in Homura's room. Kyouko tries to pry some more information out of Homura, but Kyuubey instead appears near the two of them and to warn them that Sayaka's Soul Gem is starting to become corrupted from all the magic power she had been using.
This prompts Homura to try to kill Sayaka later on, but Kyouko stops Homura from actually carrying out her threat - once again saving Sayaka from an untimely end. But Sayaka still pretty much refuses any sort of aid and walks off on her own. But Kyouko refuses to let her go that easily and searches the city for her until she finally finds the other girl again. But the only thing she witnesses after a short conversation is Sayaka's transformation into a witch without Kyouko being able to do anything to stop it. Kyouko is promptly transported into the new witch's dimension while carrying Sayaka's now lifeless body, but is taken out of there by Homura. The two of them meet up with Madoka outside, but once Homura tells Madoka what happened to Sayaka Madoka just breaks down crying. Kyouko shouts at Homura for telling Madoka everything so bluntly, but Homura doesn't particularly seem to care and just walks off. Kyouko takes Sayaka's body with her and uses her own magic to keep it alive and warm while desperately looking for a way to reverse Sayaka's transformation into a witch, even though Kyuubey tells her there isn't one.
She calls out Madoka to help her save Sayaka; her plan is to bring Madoka with her into the witch's (that was once Sayaka) dimension so that Madoka's words might reach Sayaka and cause her to transform back to her regular self. Together they go into the witch's territory and face the witch, but no matter how much Madoka calls out there's no sign of who Sayaka once was. The witch attacks, but Kyouko keeps fighting her until the very end. When Homura arrives to protect Madoka and Kyouko realises her fight to get Sayaka back is practically useless she decides to kill the witch on her own while using all her power - sacrificing her life in process.
"It sucks to be alone... It's okay. I'll be beside you... Sayaka."
